Boanerges Blandon Corcomo or “Mecate” as his friends call him, was 27 in 1982 when his army troop was patrolling Teotecasinte, Nicaragua. The troop accidently entered a mined field and Mecate stepped on a mine. The troop was carrying hand grenades which exploded when the mine did, causing several people to have multiple wounds. By the time he was carried to a hospital in Honduras Mecate was barely alive from all of the blood loss. He lost one of his legs. Now Mecate works in his small coffee faro 2 kilometers outside of Jicaro, Nicaragua, where he lives with his wife and two children. He would like a loan to improve his farm.
