Pedro Jerónimo Duarte Amador was fighting in the Nicaraguan Civil War when he was ordered to patrol a path that he was unfamiliar with. He and several other people were deep in the forest when he fell on a landmine. The others rushed to him when they heard the explosion and carried him to the nearest medical facility where a doctor had to amputate one of Pedro’s legs and the foot from his other leg. Pedro has 2 manzanas of land in Nicaragua where he lives with his wife, who is also disabled, and their only child. He grows coffee on some of his property, but doesn’t have the money to plant coffee on all of it, although the land is fertile and ready to be planted. Pedro is asking for a loan so he can buy seeds, fertilizer and tools to plant coffee on all of his property.
